| BUMITRA MALAYSIA was formed in 1981 on the initiative of a group of Bumiputra ( indigenous ) travel and tour agents to represent their interests. It is rightfully named Bumiputra travel and Tours Association or BUMITRA for short. It started of with only about 15 members. Today, BUMITRA boasts a membership of over 350 members, comparising local Bumiputra Travel and Tour organizations as well as overseas affiliations. It is also the national representative body for the Bumiputra travel industry in the country. With a full time secretariat in Kuala Lumpur, its headquaters, BUMITRA intends to set up state chapters in other parts of the country as well. BUMITRA's objective is to promote the interests of the Bumiputra Travel and Tour industry in Malaysia. BUMITRA works closely with The Ministry of Tourism as well as Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board (MTPB), help organize fairs, seminars, convention and workshops both to create public awareness of the tourism industry as well as to benefit its members. Through its close cooperation with MATTA, the National Travel Agent Association, BUMITRA can offer course based on the National Occupational Skill Standards besides industry related programmed which are recognized by the government of Malaysia and International bodies such as the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the Universal Federation of Agents Association (UFTAA). |
